Rustic Barn Wood Hood Vent

20151201_185748I tortured myself for weeks  months trying to decide if I wanted a painted white hood vent or something really rustic to stand out.  I usually choose white every time. White cabinets, white counters, I even choose vanilla ice cream HA. (I cant believe I admitted that) …There is just something calming about the simplicity of white.

Anyway! Once I saw the white subway tile wall complete.. I knew it had to be the rustic barn wood! nohood.png

 

Here is the frame my amazing engineer husband built. Thats kind of how we work.. he does the real work and builds something and then I just add the pretty 😉   The frame is built around this 36″  range hood insert   The full width of the hood is 42″.  The cooktop is 36″. 22085

So I took 1 x 6’s cut to size, roughed them up to look old.. nailed them in place…. (here it is before stain) 20150825_135954

Then stained with a mix of dark walnut and walnut stain.

There is a big structural exposed beam that frames the kitchen, and matches the hood.. it kind of pulls everything together.  I will do a post soon on how we built that beam.

    1. Hi!! The white shelves (upper 4) are 2x10s sanded and painted. The bottom two are made to look like 2xs but I also wanted to fit the under cabinet led lighting so we built them with 1xs so the lighting fit underneath concealed.

      We used the steel brackets from etsy (Designs2create) And simply drilled through the subway tile (w a small masonry drill bit)

  3. Hi!!! Love this look! Hubs and I r attempting the same type of look/feel in our new kitchen! U r an inspiration! Blending the modern white with some rustic!
    I have a question…what type of wood did u use? We were thinking of doing knotty pine.
